The Indiana O-40 team traveled to play Mt. Lebanon on the turf field in Bethel Park. The home team came out playing aggressively, and only about 5 minutes into the game, it paid off when the Indiana keeper mishandled an innocent-looking cross. The resulting scramble ended with the ball in the net, and Indiana was down 1-0. The remainder of the first half was somewhat ragged, with several scoring opportunities for both teams, but no goals, and Mt. Lebanon took a 1-0 lead into the half. In the second half, Indiana stepped up their game and started to control both possession and territory. About 10 minutes into the second half, Indiana’s Chad Hojnoski was fouled in the box, and Hojnoski converted the resulting PK to tie the game. Indiana continued to press for the game-winner, and Mt. Lebanon played from an increasingly defensive footing, often dropping 9 or 10 players into their defensive penalty box. Although Indiana put intense pressure on the Mt. Lebanon goal, the home team’s tactics worked and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. After his initial mistake, Kevin Kerr played solidly in the Indiana goal and shut out Mt. Lebanon for the final 75 minutes.
