Indiana O-40 played host to Seneca Valley North on a wet and windy field at White Township Recreation Complex. The visitors were in last place, but they came out aggressively and played even with Indiana for the first 20 minutes. Right at the 20 minute mark, Seneca Valley North lifted a long chip at the Indiana goal. Keeper Kevin Kerr tried to push it over the goal, but he was too close to his line and the ball hit the bottom of the crossbar and went in to give the visitors the lead. Indiana responded by redoubling their attack, and it soon paid off in an intricate series of passes, ending with Chad Hojnoski open in front of the goal. Hojnoski finished in the low left corner, and the game was tied. Indiana had several other scoring opportunities, with Hojnoski, Bryan Wilkins and Jose Soriano usually in the thick of the attack, but was unable to find the back of the net again before the break. The second half followed a consistent pattern, with Indiana doing most of the attacking. Seneca Valley North launched frequent counter-attacks, but Indiana’s improvised line-up of defenders (Alarcon, McKelvy, Monteleone, Mullen and See) were able to control these without seriously endangering the Indiana goal. Twice during the second half, Hojnoski got free along the Seneca Valley North endline, and was able to find Mike Hartle unmarked in front of the goal. Hartle’s two goals brought the final score to 3-1, and the win vaulted Indiana to first place in their division.
