Indiana O-40 traveled to Round Hill Park for a match against Mon Valley United. Indiana had not conceded a goal in the first half yet this year, but they had been starting games slowly, and in this match, it finally caught up to them. About 15 minutes in, a Mon Valley shot deflected off an Indiana leg, and by keeper Kevin Kerr to give the home team the lead. However, as the game went on, Indiana increasingly gained control, and they wasted several good scoring chances. Finally, with about 18 minutes to play, Pete Cefalu lofted a pass into the box. Bryan Wilkins was there, and he popped his header over the keeper and into the net to tie the game. Indiana continued to press for the game winner, and with about 5 minutes to go, Wilkins was fouled in the penalty area. Francisco Alarcon has an outstanding record with PK’s, but he hit this one too far inside the post, and the keeper made the save. The game ended 1-1, which was something of a disappointment given the way Indiana dominated the second half. The O-40 team will be in action next Saturday at White Township soccer fields against Elizabeth Forward.
