Fox Chapel brought their 2-1 record to Indiana for an over-40 match. The home team, though they had played three close, hard-fought contests, had yet to notch a victory. The first half was a wide-open affair, with Fox Chapel frequently reversing the ball and controlling possession, but their backs were having difficulty containing Indiana’s long counter-attacks. On a counter-attack about 30 minutes into the game, Matt McKelvy was causing his usual havoc in front of the opposing goal, when he found Pete Cefalu unmarked at the far post. Cefalu calmly finished, and Indiana took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The second half was much more a midfield contest, with less close-in scoring chances on both ends, but that suited Indiana’s Bryan Wilkins just fine. At about the 50-minute mark, he chipped the keeper from about 40 meters out on the left wing to give Indiana the lead. Ten minutes later, again Wilkins struck from long range, sending a curving shot from 30 meters into the right corner of the goal. These strikes seemed to take the fight out of Fox Chapel, and the match ended with a 3-0 shutout for Indiana and keeper Kevin Kerr. Indiana O-40 travels to Mon Valley United next Saturday.
