Indiana O-40 opened their season Saturday in beautiful Highmark Stadium against Tartan Devils Recycled. With their lineup strengthened by the addition of two new players (David Stammer and Chad Hojnoski), Indiana went into the game confident, but Devils Recycled were able to control play for the first 10 minutes. Finally, Indiana strung together several passes on a counter, ending with Bryan Wilkins finding an unmarked Rich Stiteler in front of the net, and it was 1-0, Indiana. A few minutes later, Hojnoski dispossessed a Devils Recycled defender, and rolled the ball into the low corner to make it 2-0. At this point, the home team’s early cohesion had evaporated, and it was open season on the Devils Recycled goal. When it was all over, Hojnoski had a total of five goals, Scott Heasley added two more, and the final score was 8-0, Indiana. The O-40 team has their fall home opener at 4:00 Saturday against Pittsburgh Dynamo United.
